Our Faith

All Peoples are of tremendous value to God; reaching them with the Gospel is our distinct responsibility.

Yes, I remember it was on April 20, 1997, when me and two of my friends planted the church where I am currently on full-time duty and have been the senior pastor of the church since 2003.

I had met these two people, with whom we became friends and, in fact, close families in Christ, since early February 1997. After getting to know each other in very few weeks as new arrivals in South Africa, we didn’t have much to do except for socializing. Taking advantage of our freedom, we spent nearly a quarter of each day praying, encouraging, and discussing God’s word in order to learn from one another. That was the time I decided to inform my new friends about planting a church specifically to minister to our own communities, as the Holy Spirit had clearly instructed me to do so.

Even if I was not aware of my call to the fivefold ministries, I am always satisfied when I only do the works of God. I had initiated a formalized gathering on Wednesday and Sunday afternoon. Moreover, I had also started home cell groups on Tuesday and Friday evenings at different locations.

On April 20, 1997, we introduced the name of the church as “Emmanuel International Gospel Ministries” and after a few years of ministries, we registered it as a nonprofit organization.

Statement of Faith

  • We believe there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

  • We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, and in His bodily resurrection.

  • We believe the Bible to be the inspired and infallible Word of God.

  • We believe that salvation is by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

  • We believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues as a subsequent gift to salvation.

  • We believe in the provision of bodily healing through the atoning work of Jesus Christ.

  • We believe in life after death.

  • We believe that our new identity is in Christ, where our call entails loving Him and testifying about Him.

  • We believe in Jesus Great Commission (Preaching the gospel to all nations) and Jesus Great Commandment (to love our neighbour as we love ourselves).

  • We believe marriage between opposite sex only.

  • We believe in the existence of Satan and the provision of the name of Jesus to destroy the works of the devil.

  • We believe in the return of our Lord Jesus Christ and the resurrection of both the saved and the lost, the saved unto eternal life, living eternally in the presence of God, and the lost unto eternal damnation without further opportunity for repentance.

Those days are very challenging for all immigrants arriving in South Africa, especially Ethiopians, where lots of uncertainty laid ahead of them. Ministering Ethiopians who were confused, frustrated, discouraged, and disillusioned, to mention but a few.

Preaching Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit made them very encouraged, and if not all of them, most of them found a way to succeed in life. I believe Ethiopian communities today in South Africa are much stronger as a result of the good news they heard during those dark days, if I may say so safely.
